Book Review - Plain Paradise

Plain Pradise is good reading. I finished the book in three days. I have read many of the Amish themed books and have liked them all. This book, though, gives me food for thought. I wonder if the author did a lot of research about the Amish culture. Why would a girl who wears long dresses, long sleeves and a prayer cap be allowed to wear a bathing suit and swim with just her boyfriend and herself? Just wondering, but it is good reading.

Everyone Communicates Few Connect

John Maxwell is an amazing man when it comes to connecting with people. In his book, he talks about how important it is that we connect with people before we try to communicate something to them or they will not receive the message we are trying to give. This book is almost a "can't lay down" read. As I was reading, I felt more inadequate. I hope I can apply some of John' s methods of connecting with people. This subject should be a required school course.

How To Reach Your Full Potential for God Review

Dr. Charles F. Stanley says to "Never settle for less than His best", and he stresses that there are essentials to living to our full potential. We must live a clean life, keep our minds on God's best for us, use our God-given gifts, take care of ourselves health-wise and not be afraid to take risk's when we feel God is leading us. The book is well worth reading if one wants to live a holy life.

Deborah Norville, The Power of Respect

Deborah Norville has hit dead center on what is wrong in the world today. If we showed the respect for each other that we should, there would be peace on earth. That sounds simplified, but she shows us that we would be happier, everyone else would be happier, and the world would be a nice place to live if we respected each other. When it comes right down to it, we are all created equal. I give this book 5 stars.

Book Review

Living With Confidence in this Chaotic World, by David Jeremiah

This is a very exhaustive book about Christian living during these unsure days we are currently experiencing. Dr. Jeremiah gives us good instructions as to how we should be living in order to glorify God. There is probably nothing new in what he says, we really know how we should live, but when he puts it in context with the return of the Lord being possibly very near, it really strikes close to home.

I had a little problem with the first several chapters because the very words I was reading I had heard before because the sermons I have heard him preach for the last month, or so, have been word for word what I was reading. For anyone who wants to walk as close to the Lord as possible, I recommend this book. I give it 5 stars.

Fall is in the Air

The leaves haven't begun to turn colors as yet, but there is a definite hint of fall in the air. The mornings prove to be the perfect time to take a cup of coffee and sit on the back porch and look out over the woods and thank God for His beautiful world.

Fall is my favorite time of the year. When I lived in Indiana, it was a somewhat sad time because it meant not being able to see much green for several months, the possiblility of being snowed in, and being cumbered by heavy coats and clothing when I chose to leave the house. When I lived in Florida, there was not enough change to hardly tell that Fall had arrived. Now that I live in Alabama, there is a definite change in the weather and I am enjoying those changes.

To me, there is always a hint of sadness when a life ends, whether it be an animal that has been hit by a vehicle, a garden plant that has ended it's fruitful season, grass that has given it's best for the summer season, flowers that have lost their luster, and, of course, the biggest sadness of all - the ending of life of a person who has lived life to fullest. But God has ordained the cycle of life and since we cannot alter it in any way, we accept it and live as He would want us to live.

There are experiences of winter that are enjoyable and fall is just an interval for us to prepare for those experiences. The more we enjoy fall, the more we will be ready for winter.

Life is good and God is too!
